Set Description:

. Pair of vintage, red catalin dice with white pips. Measurement: Approximately 5/8-inch square.

. Vintage red, catalin bettor with an E, 2, 3, 4 and Chinese character for east. Measurement: Approximately 1-7/16 diameter.

. Vintage Chinese box made from pottery chard and metal. Measurement: Approximately 2-1/4 x 2-1/8 x 1-3/8 inches.

. Vintage square hole plastic coins. Twelve each of red, blue, yellow and green. Measurement: Approximately 7/8-inch diameter.

. New rack bag, designed and made by Em Chisholm of The Pickled Poet with fine details. Bright floral print on a black background in shades of green, orange, blue, yellow, purple, pink, and white. The top ruffle is blue, the bag is also lined in blue. The drawstrings are finished with a handmade painted bead and seven-coin tassel on each drawstring. The drawstring is black, coins are gold and beads are blue. Measurement: approximately 26 x 7-1/2 inches.

. Four catalin swirl racks with red Catalin stoppers. One each of red, green, turquoise and yellow. No cracks or chips, a few random marks. Gold tone coin holders, the plating is worn in places, black tips. Measurement: Approximately 18-1/8, playing surface 15-3/4 inches.

. New lidded box in classic black. This elegant, hand-crafted box is by Lavender Bird Design. The box is covered in black pebbled vinyl. Clamshell type box. Measurement: Approximately 10-3/4 x 8-1/2 x 2-1/4 inches.

. 156 vintage, circa 1960s solid, catalin mahjong tiles. These tiles were sold under the label, Royal Depth Control, made in the USA. This set features the harder to find, border white dragon and extra flower tiles. They are uniform in color, golden-yellow. They are in very nice condition; the paint is in very nice condition. Some tiles have some random darker marks, an example is shown in a photo. All the tiles are original to the set. Eight extra tiles have been stickered as joker tiles with CHarli’s stickers. There are four extra flower tiles. This tile set has been cleaned by hand. In the photos of the complete tile set, the tiles have been turned over and on their sides in place. The size of the tiles varies slightly within the set. Tile measurements are approximately: 1-1/4 x 7/8 x 7/16 inches.

This is a "Vintage" mahjong set. It was not manufactured utilizing modern technology with precision controls and exact results. Pieces and parts were in many cases made by hand, up to 90 years ago. There may be some variation in color and/or size as well as manufacturing artifacts or remnants such as surface cracking, scratches or flea bites in the Catalin, Bakelite, resin, Celluloid, Lucite, or other plastics as the material cooled. Chips and flea bites may be a result of materials used as fillers in the plastics or how the set was played with or stored. There may also be variation in the paint colors from suit to suit if the set tiles were painted at different times using different batches of paint.

Some tiles are made from more than one type of materials. Some of the pieces of a tile may shrink differently than others and over time the tile components may separate. Game tiles may also separate during normal play. If the pieces separate, a simple tacky, water clean-up, crafter's glue will work nicely to reattach the pieces. On rare occasion, pieces may separate during shipping. If the set arrives with separated tiles they can be easily repaired as outlined above. Please get in touch with me and I will work with you to resolve the situation to your 100% satisfaction. Separated tiles are not in and of themselves reason to return a set as the repair is both simple and quick.

The wood, bone and bamboo pieces may not all match perfectly in size, as most were carved, crafted and assembled by hand. This also includes the wooden storage boxes. In an effort to get the product to market quickly, many of the vintage wooden boxes were made with green wood. As the wood dried, it may have split, shrunk or cracked in places. This is what makes the sets vintage and unique and brings the wonderful character and charm that makes mahjong sets so very popular. Vintage sets are unique in that they bear the maker's personal touch.

Vintage metal will show its age and character. The money holders, case locks and other metal components may have an uneven patina, spots of oxidation or normal use wear associated with age. Additionally, if dissimilar metals were used to make the parts, there will be areas of galvanic corrosion where the two metal types are joined.

If you are expecting that all of the pieces match in size and color exactly then you probably do not want a vintage set. Please look carefully at my photographs, read my description carefully, and ask questions before bidding or purchasing. Additional information regarding vintage mahjong sets can be found online.
