Hello Fun! PARTY SET! Vintage, Mahjong Set: 160 Royal Games Tiles, Clamshell Box with Trays, Rack Bag, 4 Racks and Dice.

PARTY SET… If you like color and fun, this set may be for you! This set features Royal Games, golden sunshine yellow, Catalin tiles. A special, gorgeous rack bag and box combination that was handmade by Em Chisholm of The Pickled Poet. Bright orange Catalin racks with green stoppers. Fun dice and east wind indicator.

All vintage components of this set have been cleaned by hand.

Set Description:

. Pair of contemporary multi-color pips, dice. The design is mine. Green, yellow and orange on bone-white. Dice are hand painted. Measurement: Approximately 11/16-inch square.

. Directional east wind indicator for mahjong. This foo dog design was put together by me using images from various vintage, Chinese bone and bamboo mahjong tiles from the 1920s. The artisans of those tiles are known. Made from glass cabochon top, plexiglass bottom with a photo sandwiched between.

It is handmade and will have slight imperfections including air bubbles. Size: Approximately 35mm (about 1 3/8 inch) diameter x 10 mm high.

. Vintage, 48 square hole coins. 12 each of red, blue, green and yellow. Measurement 7/8-inch diameter.

. Vintage, Catalin swirl racks with Catalin stoppers and brass tone coin holders. Four orange swirl and cream. All racks have green swirl stoppers. The racks are in nice vintage condition with a few various marks and expected wear. The coin holders have pitting and loss of plating in areas. Measurement: approximately 18 inches long, 15-1/2 inches playing field. One rack is a little longer than the other three.

. New, handmade, rack bag, designed and made by Em Chisholm of The Pickled Poet. Cotton print fabric with a butterfly motif in shades of teal, pink, purple, blue, orange, green, yellow orange and black. The top ruffle is yellow, the bag is also lined in yellow. The drawstrings are finished with a handmade painted bead, and butterfly charms along with blue glass beads on each drawstring for the sweetest details. The drawstring is blue, charms are gold, and beads match the ruffle. Measurement: approximately 26 x 7-1/2 inches.

. New, handmade, clamshell box with two tile trays, designed and made by Em Chisholm of The Pickled Poet. The box opens to lay completely flat, revealing two removable trays that each hold two rows of tiles, two tiles deep. The clamshell lid provides easy access to slide and lift out tile trays from the box. Trays can then be tipped to remove tiles for game play. When closed, the bottom lid box is nestled snugly inside the top lid; removable trays, tiles and accessories are fully protected. The box and trays are fabric covered and lined with quality archival materials. This box is signed and numbered, the label is inside the box. This box is number 4, 2024. The box exterior lids and spine are covered in a cotton print fabric with a butterfly motif in shades of teal, pink, purple, blue, orange, green, yellow orange and black. Three sides and the box interior are covered in a yellow fabric. The trays are covered in kingfisher blue, premium book-cloth. Measurement: approximately 20 x 7-1/8 x 2 inches.

. 160, circa 1950s Catalin tiles by Royal Games. All the tiles are from the same original tile set. This set features sixteen flower tiles and fun creature dragon tiles. The rounded ends of the bamboo on the bamboo suit are not often seen. The set is golden sunshine yellow in color with bright, colorful paint. The tiles are in very nice condition. A few tiles have a little paint loss, there are some tiles with tiny dark spots. Eight extra flower tiles were stickered as joker tiles. The stickers are from CHarli of Simply the Best. These tiles have been cleaned by hand. In the photos of the complete tile set, the tiles have been turned over in place. Measurement: Approximately 1-3/8 x 7/8 x 1/2 inches.

This is a "Vintage" mahjong set. It was not manufactured utilizing modern technology with precision controls and exact results. Pieces and parts were in many cases made by hand, up to 90 years ago. There may be some variation in color and/or size as well as manufacturing artifacts or remnants such as surface cracking, scratches or flea bites in the Catalin, Bakelite, resin, Celluloid, Lucite, or other plastics as the material cooled. Chips and flea bites may be a result of materials used as fillers in the plastics or how the set was played with or stored. There may also be variation in the paint colors from suit to suit if the set tiles were painted at different times using different batches of paint.

Some tiles are made from more than one type of materials. Some of the pieces of a tile may shrink differently than others and over time the tile components may separate. Game tiles may also separate during normal play. If the pieces separate, a simple tacky, water clean-up, crafter's glue will work nicely to reattach the pieces. On rare occasion, pieces may separate during shipping. If the set arrives with separated tiles they can be easily repaired as outlined above. Please get in touch with me and I will work with you to resolve the situation to your 100% satisfaction. Separated tiles are not in and of themselves reason to return a set as the repair is both simple and quick.

The wood, bone and bamboo pieces may not all match perfectly in size, as most were carved, crafted and assembled by hand. This also includes the wooden storage boxes. In an effort to get the product to market quickly, many of the vintage wooden boxes were made with green wood. As the wood dried, it may have split, shrunk or cracked in places. This is what makes the sets vintage and unique and brings the wonderful character and charm that makes mahjong sets so very popular. Vintage sets are unique in that they bear the maker's personal touch.

Vintage metal will show its age and character. The money holders, case locks and other metal components may have an uneven patina, spots of oxidation or normal use wear associated with age. Additionally, if dissimilar metals were used to make the parts, there will be areas of galvanic corrosion where the two metal types are joined.

If you are expecting that all of the pieces match in size and color exactly then you probably do not want a vintage set. Please look carefully at my photographs, read my description carefully, and ask questions before bidding or purchasing. Additional information regarding vintage mahjong sets can be found online.
